Atalanta v Everton Betting Tips & Preview – Thursday 14th September 2017

Everton begin their UEFA Europa League campaign with a visit to the MAPEI Stadium to play Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta on Thursday night. With Lyon and Apollon Limassol also contesting Group E, it should be quite a battle for the top two places. The Toffees face back-to-back home games against Limassol and Lyon respectively after this, so a positive result on Italian soil will do nicely for the Merseyside outfit.

Considering Atalanta and Everton have never met in any competition, this is a tough match to call. The bookies are also having a hard time splitting the pair, as the Goddess were incredibly strong on their own patch last term. With a lot at stake in this crucial Group E opener, can the hosts make the most of being on home turf, or will the Toffees return to England with a precious three points?

Top Tips

  • Draw - 23/10 at Bet365
  • Both Teams to Score - 5/6 at Betfred

As we touched on, Atalanta were extremely hard to beat at home last season. In fact, only Juventus, Roma and Napoli took more points from their home fixtures. Overall, Gasperini’s men won 12, drew four and lost just three. They were pretty solid on the road, also, winning nine of their 19 away matches. However, things have not quite gone to plan so far this term, as they have failed to take a single point from their opening two Serie A games, losing to Roma and Napoli.

Everton, who beat Ruzomberok and Hajduk Split respectively to reach the Europa League group stage, started their league season with a 1-0 home win over Stoke City. The Toffees then earned a solid 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Last time out, however, Everton were beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, which was their first loss in seven encounters this term.

The Toffees found life very tough on the road last season, winning just four Premier League away games. They have also won just one of their four away fixtures this term, with their only triumph coming away in Ruzomberok. With Atalanta’s strong home form, we fancy them to hold Everton to a draw on Thursday. Bet365 have the stalemate available at 23/10. Betfred’s 5/6 for both teams to score is also worth having a look at.

Other Bets

For those of you who fancy this to end all square in Italy, check out Bet365’s nice price of 15/4 for the draw and both teams to score.

Last term, seven of Everton’s 10 Premier League draws ended in a 1-1 scoreline. They have also drawn 1-1 twice already this season. As for Atalanta, they drew 1-1 on five occasions in Seria A. We think a 1-1 draw is a likely outcome in Italy on Thursday, so have a punt on Betfair’s tasty odds of 11/2.
