Atletico Madrid v Malaga Betting Tips & Preview – Saturday 16th September 2017

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid welcome Michel’s Malaga to the Wanda Metropolitano this Saturday for Atleti’s first ever La Liga game in their new 68,000-seater stadium. After kicking off their league campaign with three testing away matches on the spin, Simeone and co. will be looking forward to this one.

Malaga have made a disastrous start to their league campaign, and they won’t be relishing the prospect of facing Los Colchoneros at the Metropolitano at the weekend. The home team are the strong favourites with the bookies, and they should be gunning for a handsome win. Will Atleti open up their new home with three big points on Saturday night?

Top Tips

  • Atletico Madrid to Win -1 - 5/6 at Betfair
  • Atletico Madrid to Win 3-0 - 13/2 at BetVictor

Analysis

Atleti have made a decent start to their campaign, considering all three of their league matches have been played away from home. After fighting back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Girona on the opening weekend, the Red and Whites then thumped Las Palmas 5-1. Last time out, however, they were held to a 0-0 draw by Valencia. They also drew 0-0 at Roma in their opening UEFA Champions League match in midweek.

Malaga have opened up with three successive defeats. Boquerones lost 1-0 at home to Eibar, which they followed up with a 1-0 reverse at Girona. On Monday evening, Michel’s men were then beaten 3-1 by Las Palmas at home, leaving them in 19th place in La Liga.

Atleti did the double over Malaga last year, winning 4-2 at the Vicente Calderon in October and 2-0 away from home in April. The White and Sky Blues have only beaten Madrid once in their last 12 attempts.

Even though Atletico Madrid have yet to set foot on their new turf, we can’t see them having any problems in this one. This could be an easy victory for the hosts, so have a punt on Betfair’s 5/6 for Los Colchoneros to win -1. We also like the look of BetVictor’s 13/2 for Simeone’s boys to win 3-0.

Recent Head to Head Record

  • Malaga 0-2 Atletico Madrid, April 2017
  • Atletico Madrid 4-2 Malaga, October 2016
  • Atletico Madrid 1-0 Malaga, April 2016
  • Malaga 1-0 Atletico Madrid, December 2015

Other Bets

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Antoine Griezmann, who’s missed Atletico’s last two games having been sent off on the opening weekend. The Frenchman returned against Roma on Tuesday, but struggled to make an impact in the Italian capital.

Griezmann, who scored in France’s recent 4-0 win over Holland, will be looking to open up his La Liga account this weekend. Bet365 are offering the tempting price of 5/4 for the striker to score and Atletico to win on Saturday. We also like the look of Ladbrokes’ 14/5 for Griezmann to net first.
