Chelsea v Norwich City Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 17th January 2018

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and Daniel Farke’s Norwich City meet at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night for an Emirates FA Cup third round replay. There was nothing to split the two in the 0-0 draw at Carrow Road recently, but the Blues are the strong favourites to ease past the EFL Championship side in west London.

The Canaries have improved of late, but it will be a tall order to win at the Bridge on Wednesday. Chelsea are very strong on their own patch, and they should have too much quality for the Championship outfit on Wednesday evening. A home tie against Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United is the reward for winning this one.

Chelsea Form

Before this weekend’s home game with Leicester City, Chelsea have drawn their last three in three different competitions. The Blues have been held twice by Arsenal, in the Premier League and in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final. In fact, the Blues have not won since an emphatic 5-0 home victory over Stoke City in their final match of 2017.

Nevertheless, Conte’s troops have been very hard to beat of late having lost just one of their last 17 league and cup encounters. Chelsea, who are now unbeaten in nine, will back themselves to finally get the better of Norwich on their own patch on Wednesday.

Norwich City Form

Norwich were tipped by some to be dark horses for the play-offs before a ball was kicked this term, but they have been well off the pace so far. Despite breaking into the top six briefly in October, the Canaries have spent most of their time around mid-table or in the bottom half. They go into Saturday’s Championship game at Bristol City in 13th on 34 points.

Despite their mediocre campaign to this point, Farke’s side have picked up in recent weeks. Before holding the English champions to a draw in the FA Cup, Norwich had taken seven points from the last nine on offer in the league. City won’t be relegated, whilst it seems unlikely they will they threaten the play-offs, so they will be going all out to cause an upset at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Head to Head Stats

Chelsea were not at the races at Carrow Road in the first game, even though Conte picked a more than capable team. The Blues may have had more of the ball and more shots, but they hardly threatened Angus Gunn in the Canaries net. Overall, a draw was probably a fair result on the day.

Chelsea have had the better of Norwich in recent years, winning 10 of the last 14 meetings between the two since their last defeat way back in December 1994. From 2002 to 2011, the Blues beat the Canaries five times in a row. In the last FA Cup meeting prior to the one at Carrow Road last week, Chelsea thumped Norwich 4-0 at the Bridge in 2007.

  • Ross Barkley - Back in training and could make Blues debut

Norwich City

  • Harrison Reed - A doubt with a hip problem
  • Matthew Jarvis - Still recovering from a long-term ankle injury
  • Marco Stiepermann - Out for a few weeks with a groin injury

Betting Tips

Norwich played well in the 0-0 draw, but with this one taking place at Stamford Bridge, we can only see one winner. After losing out in the final to Arsenal back in May, Conte and co. will be hoping to go one step further this time around. The Blues are also still fighting strongly in the EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League. The hosts should have no problems seeing off the Championship team on Wednesday.

Chelsea to Win -2

Conte’s side have won by more than two goals on six occasions this season, including a 5-0 win over Stoke in their last outing at the Bridge. Chelsea’s qualities should shine through in the end, so back them to win by a margin on Wednesday. The hosts to win -2 is available at odds of 6/4.

Chelsea to Win and Over 2.5 Goals

Chelsea have netted 21 goals in 11 league games on home soil so far. They also put five past Nottingham Forest in the earlier rounds of the League Cup. Have a punt on a Chelsea win and over 2.5 goals (8/11).

Chelsea to Win 4-0

Chelsea have won 4-0 on three occasions in all competitions this term. With that in mind, put some money on them to prevail 4-0 on Wednesday at the top odds of 9/1.
