Crystal Palace v Southampton Betting Tips & Preview – Saturday 16th September 2017

Crystal Palace and Southampton meet at Selhurst Park for a Premier League fixture this Saturday afternoon. After sacking Frank de Boer on Monday, Palace are reportedly lining up the experienced Roy Hodgson as his replacement. The Eagles have lost all four of their Premier League matches, being stranded at the foot of the table as a result.

Although Southampton have five points to their name, they fell to their first league defeat of the season against Watford at St Mary’s last Saturday. With neither side in great form, we should be in for an interesting matchup in the capital at the weekend. Will the Saints pile more misery on the Eagles, or can the hosts relieve some of the pressure with their first win?

Top Tips

  • Draw and Both Teams to Score - 18/5 at BetVictor
  • 1-1 Draw - 11/2 at Bet365

Crystal Palace have been beaten by Huddersfield Town, Liverpool, Swansea City and Burnley to sit rock bottom of the Premier League after four games. Even more worryingly, though, the Eagles are the only side in England’s top four tiers not to have scored a league goal this term. Frank de Boer certainly paid the price, as the Dutchman was relieved of his duties on Monday.

Southampton have won one, drawn two and lost one of their opening four Premier League matches. After a solid enough start, the Saints fell to a poor 2-0 home loss to Marco Silva’s Watford on Saturday, leaving them in 13th place. However, victory this weekend will put them back on track.

Southampton have not enjoyed their recent visits to Selhurst Park. In the 2015-16 season, the Eagles won 1-0 courtesy of a first-half strike by Yohan Cabaye. Last season, goals from Christian Benteke (2) and James Tomkins inspired Palace to a handsome 3-0 victory in London.

With a new manager at the helm, we’re backing Palace to stop the rot on Saturday. Have a look at BetVictor’s 18/5 for the draw and both teams to score. Bet365’s decent odds of 11/2 for the 1-1 stalemate are also worth taking advantage of.

Recent Head to Head Record

  • Southampton 3-1 Crystal Palace, April 2017
  • Crystal Palace 3-0 Southampton, December 2016
  • Southampton 2-0 Crystal Palace, September 2016
  • Southampton 4-1 Crystal Palace, May 2016

Other Bets

Cristian Benteke was Palace’s saviour on a number of occasions last term. Although he’s yet to open his account this season, the Belgium international is always a danger up top. We feel the striker will come good on Saturday, so take a look at Betfair’s 15/8 for Benteke to score anytime.

Even though De Boer has now gone, it will still be a nervy Selhurst Park on Saturday, even more so if the visitors can score first. Southampton are available at the tempting price of 19/20 with Coral to open the scoring in south London on Saturday.
