Feyenoord v Manchester City Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 13th September 2017

Manchester City kick off their new Champions League campaign this week, and Pep Guardiola needs to lead his side to the latter stages. After a busy summer of signings at the Etihad, this City squad need to compete at the highest level. Having bought in some big names to shore up their side, City have to be contenders for the trophy this term to justify their big spend.

After their summer outlay, City are widely expected to claim a win at Feyenoord. However, the Dutch side could prove to be tricky opposition, after winning the Eredivisie last term. Kicking off with a trip to Rotterdam can be tough, as Man United found out when they lost to Feyenoord on their way to winning the Europa League last season. Can the Dutch side claim another Manchester scalp this week when they return to the Champions League?

Top Tips

  • Under 2.5 Goals - 5/4 with Bet365
  • Under 1.5 Man City goals - 13/8 with Betfred

Analysis

Feyenoord’s title success last term was built on a strong defensive record, which carried on into the new campaign. While the Dutch league isn’t of the highest quality, that record was something that they carried into their Europa League group stage matches. While the Dutch side exited at the first hurdle last time out, they crashed out due to some poor away form. At home they were quite solid, enjoying a few tight games.

Man City head to a ground which saw a total of just three goals in three European ties last season, which makes this trip a lot harder. They weren’t brilliant travellers in Europe last season, allowing the opposition to set the tempo. That was odd from a Pep Guardiola side, and his team could find themselves struggling to break through the organised hosts. After a strong start to the season, we’re backing Feyenoord to make this tough for the Premier League side.

Feyenoord are likely to defend deep and slow the game down, as they did in a 1-0 win over Manchester United here last term. We can’t see a high scoring game given how the Dutch side are likely to set up, so we’re backing under 2.5 goals at 5/4 with Bet365. Given how their three European games at home all saw a single goal, we think under 1.5 Man City goals is great value at 13/8 with Betfred.

Other Bets

We still think City will take the points, but this trip isn’t going to be that exciting. We can see a narrow 1-0 win for the visitors, which is priced at 7/1 with Ladbrokes. Having lost their final Europa League game 1-0 last season, we can see City taking a narrow win when they visit Holland this week. On top of that, Feyenoord’s attack probably isn’t up to challenging at this level, so a 1-0 win sounds right to us.
