Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 13th September 2017

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur get their UEFA Champions League journey underway with a tough fixture against Peter Bosz’s Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium this Wednesday night. With Real Madrid also in the group, it will be a fascinating battle for the top two spots in Group H. Despite Spurs’ woeful record at their temporary home, the Premier League side head into this one as the slight favourites.

Meanwhile, Dortmund, who currently sit at the top of the Bundesliga after two games, will fancy their chances of returning to Germany with all three points. There will be plenty of thrills and spills along the way in Group H, but can one of these get off to a flyer in London on Wednesday?

Top Tips

  • Tottenham Hotspur to Win - 11/8 at BetVictor
  • Tottenham Hotspur to Win 2-1 - 17/2 at Betfair

Tottenham have made an indifferent start to their Premier League campaign, winning one, drawing one and losing one. Despite going the entire PL season unbeaten at White Hart Lane last term, Spurs have already lost at home this season. The Lilywhites were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Wembley, with Marcos Alonso bagging a brace. Before the international break, Tottenham also failed to get the better of Burnley on home soil, conceding late to draw 1-1 with the Clarets.

As for Dortmund, they have won two out of two in the German Bundesliga, currently leading the way in the table. Bosz’s troops have seen off Wolfsburg on the road and got the better of Hertha Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park. Since losing to rivals Bayern Munich on penalties in the German Super Cup last month, BVB have yet to concede a goal.

These two met in the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League last 16, with Dortmund winning 5-1 on aggregate. After a 3-0 victory at the Westfalenstadion, the Black and Yellows earned a 2-1 win at the Lane to ease through.

If Spurs want to be a force to be reckoned with in Europe this season, it’s imperative that they put their poor form at Wembley behind them, starting on Wednesday. We fancy Pochettino’s boys to seal a narrow win in this one, so have a punt on BetVictor’s 11/8 for a home triumph. Betfair’s 17/2 for a 2-1 Spurs victory is also standing out.

Recent Head to Head Record

  • Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Borussia Dortmund, March 2016
  • Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur, March 2016

Other Bets

Tottenham – who took an outstanding 53 points from a possible 57 at White Hart Lane last term – are used to scoring first at home. Dele Alli opened the scoring in their last match at Wembley, although the Lilywhites ultimately failed to hold on against Sean Dyche’s men.

We believe Pochettino’s side will score first in this crucial European clash on Wednesday, so take advantage of Betfred’s decent odds of 5/6.
