BMW Championship Betting Tips & Preview – Thursday 14th September 2017

The players who remain in the FedEx Cup playoffs were given a week off to rest after the Dell Technologies Championship but all 70 are back to work with this week’s BMW Championship.

While most players in the field know that they have no chance of going on to lift the FedEx Cup next week there is still plenty to play for. The BMW Championship is a very prestigious tournament in its own right and offers up a huge prize fund and tons of valuable world ranking points. The host venue, Conway Farms, is also a venue where the world’s best players have scored well in recent years as Jim Furyk showed when shooting 59 in 2013.

Tips and Predictions

Some golf courses are suited to one style of golf over another but that’s not the case with Conway Farms. Bombers and plodders both have a chance at this par 71 track so the most important stat to consider is recent form. The top of the betting market is full of players in great form but nobody will be feeling as good about their game right now as Justin Thomas.

It’s been a wonderful year for the 24-year-old. He won his first major championship at the PGA Championship and is right in the running for the FedEx Cup. Thomas has only competed at Conway Farms once before but he finished a very respectable 13th. Back with much more confidence and even more game, Thomas is very capable of winning a remarkable fifth tournament of 2017 at 11/1 with Bet365.

Paul Casey has been playing some excellent golf in recent months but, as yet, he’s been unable to find his best stuff when it really matters. The Englishman is eighth in the FedEx Cup rankings despite not winning an event this year and he is set to be there or thereabouts once again this week. At 20/1 with Coral, Casey is a very solid each way betting option.

Tournament Info

  • Just two more tournaments to go - The BMW Championship is the third of the four FedEx Cup playoff events which bring the PGA Tour season to a close
  • Return to Conway Farms - Conway Farms in Chicago has been the host of the BMW Championship in three of the last five years
  • Fairways and greens - There is no secret to playing well at Conway Farms, just hit the fairways, hit the greens then hole your putts
  • Only 30 will remain - At the end of the tournament only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup rankings will progress on to next week’s Tour Championship

Other Bets and Odds

Justin Rose arrives in Chicago slightly under the radar. Rose finished 10th in both the opening playoff events and were it not for a couple of mistakes he could have challenged for those two titles. Rose looks overpriced at 30/1 with Bet365 as does Kevin Na who is 70/1 with Betfred. Na is in very good recent form and putted wonderfully when finishing 10th at Conway Farms in 2015 so make sure to back him each way as well.
