BMW International Open Betting Tips & Preview – Thursday 22nd June 2017

The European Tour returns to action this week having sat back and watched the US Open drama unfold from Erin Hills. There will be a sense of pride that former European Tour member Brooks Koepka claimed the title but everybody taking part in the BMW International Open will very quickly turn their attentions from the near past to the near future.

The BMW International Open wasn’t included in the new Rolex Series but it is still a very well regarded tournament that has seen plenty of big named winners since its inception in 1989. The 2017 renewal returns to Golfclub München Eichenried which is to the north east of Munich, and it has attracted major winners, Ryder Cup stars and previous BMW International champions alike.

Tips and Predictions

Henrik Stenson is one of the favourites with the bookies and for good reason. The Open champion has won this event twice and missing the cut at the US Open may turn into a positive. Stenson is still struggling a little with a knee injury and a bit of time away from the course is no bad thing.

At 7,157 yards, Golfclub München Eichenried is not long for a par 72 which will allow Stenson to use his trusty three wood off the tee to gain optimal position. When you put Stenson in the middle of the fairway he rarely misses a green and with world class approach play a major plus at this venue, Stenson should be right up there come Sunday at 15/2 with BetVictor.

Anybody who saw Ernie Els six putt at the Masters in 2016 could be forgiven for thinking that time was nearly up on the Big Easy’s career. However, his putting has returned to the point where he ranks in the top 40 for strokes gained putting on the PGA Tour. Where Els needs to improve is his ball striking but there are signs that part of his game is returning as well. If it comes together for Els, the 2013 BMW International winner could be worth an each way play at 75/1 with Bet365.

Tournament Info

  • Rotating courses - Golfclub München Eichenried shares the hosting duties on a rotating basis with Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof which adds some variety to the BMW International Open
  • The Iceman cometh - The 2016 champion, Henrik Stenson, is back to defend his title albeit at a different course
  • Get those putts to the hole - The greens at Golfclub München Eichenried are set to play considerably slower than many of the pros are used to
  • Going low - We’ve seen scores of -19 only get you a place in a playoff at this venue so expect plenty of birdies over the week

Other Bets and Odds

When it comes to hitting fairways and greens there are few more underrated players than SSP Chawrasia. The Indian has forged a successful career by making the most of his accuracy in an era where power seems to be all important. He won the Indian Open earlier on in the season and has had encouraging results of late so back him each way at 150/1 with Betfair.

Finally, have an each way bet on popular Englishman, Andy Sullivan at 28/1 with Bet365. He’s been struggling with his ball striking for a while but has been talking positively about his game and if it clicks he could return to winning ways.
