Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity Betting Tips & Preview – Thursday 14th September 2017

Four doesn’t go into two. It certainly sounds simple when you say it like that, but the various permutations that can still happen to decide the Super 8s top four are mind boggling to say the least. Yorkshire duo Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos have already qualified for the semi-finals. However, behind them are a chasing pack - split only by two points - of Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and St Helens.

With only two rounds of fixtures remaining, a good result is vital in this match for both sides as they look to secure play-off rugby. Chris Chester has done a brilliant job at Wakefield and it would be hard on Trinity if they were to slip out of the reckoning right at the last. However, they come up against a Hull side who have lost successive matches as they look to add the Grand Final trophy to their Challenge Cup success.

Top Tips

  • Under 48.5 points to be scored - 10/11 at Betfair
  • Hull FC to win by fewer than 13 points - 13/8 at Bet365

Analysis

Hull were perhaps unlucky to lose last week’s re-run of the Challenge Cup final with Liam Watts’ controversial early sending off not helping their cause against Wigan. Defeat for the Black and Whites saw Wigan leapfrog Hull into third place although it is only points difference that splits the two sides. Wakey meanwhile have been unable to carry their regular season form into the Super 8s but the fact they are still in the mix is a major achievement. They were desperately unlucky to lose against Saints last week but a win here would see them move into the top four with one match left to play.

This game is a hard one to call but we are going with Hull to edge it and get their first win since their victory at Wembley. Trinity’s defeat against Saints will have been a big blow and it will be hard for them to pick themselves up again from that disappointment. They will make a good game of it but we reckon it will go the same way as the last six meetings between these two.

Other Bets

With a winning run over Wakefield that stretches back to early 2015, it is little surprise to see Hull FC made favourites for this match. The home side can be backed at 2/5 with BetVictor to run out winners in this one. However, if you fancy Wakefield to keep the dream alive for at least one more week then you can back them at 12/5 with Betfair. The draw meanwhile comes in at 25/1 with the same firm.
