The Tingle Creek Chase is the star of the show at Sandown this Saturday but many racegoers will be keeping a keen eye on the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase. It’s one of the biggest novice chases of the season so far and we have five quality names competing in this renewal.

The final race of the day at Aintree on Saturday sees the very competitive Grand Sefton Handicap Chase featuring 11 runners. It’s going to be a tough slog for those involved as the two mile, five furlong race is set to take place on heavy going.

Jaap Stam’s Reading host Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City in a tasty-looking Football League Championship fixture on Monday night. The Bluebirds fly to the Madejski Stadium having won four in a row to move back into second in the table. The Royals, meanwhile, have won their last two, which makes this an intriguing contest in Berkshire.

Saracens are once again the team to beat in Europe and they head into Sunday’s clash with Clermont as firm favourites. The French side have been around the top of the game recently, but they have fallen away a little and Sarries fans will fancy their chances ahead of this one.

Munster and Leicester Tigers meet at Thomond Park in the last of Saturday’s European Rugby Champions Cup clashes and it should be an entertaining match on the Emerald Isle. With Racing 92 and Castres Olympique also in the pool, a win here could be crucial in terms of who makes it through to the knockout round.

After dropping points last time out in La Liga, Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona will be looking to return to winning ways when they make the trip to Estadio de la Ceramica this Sunday to face Javier Calleja’s Villarreal. Even though Barca were surprisingly held at home last weekend, they still lead the division by five points.

How will James DeGale measure up as he looks to wrap up 2017 with a victory? He is the heavy favourite ahead of his bout with Caleb Truax on Saturday night. This year started out in promising fashion for the IBF super middleweight champion, as he pushed WBC champion Badou Jack in a terrific fight. After that draw he was set to push on throughout the course of the year, until injury hampered his chances.

Man City are in danger of running away with the Premier League title this season and a win for them this weekend would put them 11 points clear at the top of the table. It’s a game Jose Mourinho’s side simply cannot afford to lose to keep their own feint title hopes alive.

Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli and Stefano Pioli’s Fiorentina lock horns at the Stadio San Paolo this Sunday for a big game in the Italian Serie A. After being knocked off top spot last weekend, Gli Azzurri will be gunning for all three points on Sunday. Sarri’s side have one of the better home records in the division, and they will fancy their chances of seeing off Viola on Sunday.

The final fight on the James DeGale v Caleb Truax undercard might be a bit of a disappointment for Lee Selby. He faces Eduardo Ramirez to round off 2017, the year where he was targeting a big, breakout fight against some of boxing’s biggest names. However, that didn’t come to pass, and now he has to worry about keeping his reputation intact before a likely push for stardom in the New Year.
