Arsenal v AC Milan Betting Tips & Preview – Thursday 15th March 2018

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal welcome Gennaro Gattuso’s AC Milan to the Emirates Stadium on Thursday for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie. The Gunners may hold a 2-0 advantage after an outstanding display in the San Siro in first leg, but this tie is not all done and dusted just yet.

Gattuso will demand a response from his players, who were not at it in Milan a week ago. Arsenal answered a lot of their critics with their deserved victory in Italy, but can they complete the job in the English capital on Thursday? We should be in for an intriguing night at the Emirates but we fancy the home side will be able to do enough.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal have endured a woeful start to 2018, but two wins in the space of a few days has certainly lifted the spirits in north London. After winning 2-0 against all the odds in Milan, the Gunners eased to a 3-0 win over Watford in the Premier League last Sunday. Nevertheless, Wenger’s men still sit a whopping 12 points adrift of the top four in sixth place in the PL.

Arsenal are one of the favourites to lift the Europa League trophy in May, and it’s easy to see why after their showing in Milan. The Londoners were the underdogs in the San Siro, but first half goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey sealed a superb 2-0 win in a hostile atmosphere. The Gunners are now the clear favourites to make it through to the last eight.

AC Milan Form

In reality, Milan were second best for the majority of the first leg. Despite coming out of the blocks fast in front of their home supporters, I Rossoneri were well beaten on their own patch. It was an uncharacteristic performance by Gattuso’s Milan, who have been in very good form of late. Nevertheless, they will back themselves to turn things around in London.

Milan have been flying up the Serie A table in recent weeks, winning seven and drawing one of their last eight. The Red and Blacks, who are unbeaten in Italy since losing at home to Atalanta two days before Christmas, have moved up to sixth, six points behind fourth placed Lazio.

Head to Head Stats

Prior to last Thursday’s Europa League first leg, these two had not gone head-to-head since the 2012 UEFA Champions League. Back then, Milan made it through to the last eight with a 4-3 win on aggregate after two eventful legs. Having lost 4-0 in the San Siro, the Gunners nearly pulled off a miracle comeback at the Emirates, but they could only manage a 3-0 victory.

Arsenal, who were pretty comfortable in Italy last Thursday, will be happy for another evening like that at the Emirates. However, with nothing to lose, Milan certainly have the potential to be dangerous in London.

Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Shkodran Mustafi are all doubts for the second leg. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette is unlikely to return to action from a knee injury. Milan will once again be without the injured Andrea Conti and Ignazio Abate.

  • Nacho Monreal - Likely to miss the match with a back injury
  • Shkodran Mustafi - Picked up a groin strain last time out
  • Alexandre Lacazette - Out until late March with a knee injury
  • Santi Cazorla - Still recovering from an Achilles tendon injury

AC Milan

Betting Tips

Arsenal’s excellent showing in the first leg has put them well and truly in the driving seat in this tie. You can guarantee that Gattuso will have his team fired up for this one as they hope to come from behind, but there’s enough experience and quality in this Arsenal side to see the job through on home turf.

Arsenal HT/FT

Arsenal seemed to catch Milan by surprise in the San Siro, and the Gunners will be looking to make another fast start on Thursday. We feel there’s top value in odds of 11/5 for the home team to be winning at half time and full time in the second leg.

Arsenal to Win to Nil

Arsenal have won without conceding on 14 occasions this season, including twice in the past week. Wenger will want his team to keep Milan’s attack at bay at the Emirates, so have a punt on the hosts to win to nil at 11/4.

Arsenal to Win 2-0

Arsenal to seal a repeat 2-0 win on Thursday is available at the tempting price of 9/1.
