Bayern Munich v Real Madrid Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 25th April 2018

Jupp Heynckes’ Bayern Munich and Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid meet in a blockbuster UEFA Champions League semi-final, with the first leg taking place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday night. After doing battle in Germany on Wednesday, the two giants then lock horns again in the second leg in Madrid six nights later.

These two are regulars at this stage of the competition, but which powerhouse will make it through to play either Liverpool or Roma in next month’s final in Kiev’s Olympic Stadium? The Bavarians are the slight favourites to win the first leg on their own patch, although Madrid are fancied to progress overall. We should be in for two cracking games of football, starting in Munich on Wednesday night.

Bayern Munich Form

Since Heynckes retook the reigns from the sacked Carlo Ancelotti back in October, Bayern have been virtually unstoppable in all competitions. Under the 72-year-old’s guidance, FC Hollywood have lost just two matches in six months. Bayern have already won the Bundesliga title as they sit a whopping 20 points above second-placed Schalke. Heynckes’ boys are also in the German Cup final, where they will play Eintracht Frankfurt in May.

Since losing 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in a group game back in September, Bayern have won seven and drawn one of their following eight Champions League fixtures. In the previous round, they drew 0-0 at home with Sevilla after a hard-fought 2-1 win in Spain to book their place in the last four.

Real Madrid Form

Real Madrid may have had a pretty forgettable season in La Liga, but they look hell-bent on retaining their Champions League trophy. However, they needed a huge amount of luck to squeeze past a stubborn Juventus in the quarters as, after sealing a comfortable 3-0 win in Turin, Zidane’s side found themselves 3-0 down in their home leg in injury-time. The holders then needed a last-gasp Cristiano Ronaldo penalty to get them out of trouble.

With Barcelona and Manchester City somewhat surprisingly knocked out in the last eight, Los Blancos have been named the new tournament favourites. A positive result in Germany will put them in pole position to reach their fourth final in five seasons.

Head to Head Stats

These two have been regular opponents in the latter rounds of this competition in recent years, with Real dominating. Los Merengues have won each of the last five meetings, with Bayern’s last victory over Real coming back in April 2012.

Last season, Madrid beat Bayern 6-3 on aggregate at the quarter-final stage. After a superb 2-1 win in Germany, a Ronaldo hat-trick inspired Real to an eventual 4-2 win after 120 minutes in the Santiago Bernabeu.

Injuries & Suspensions

Corentin Tolisso remains a doubt while Kingsley Coman is also likely to miss this one through injury. Real head to the Allianz Arena with no fresh injury worries. However, Nacho Fernandez is still a month or so away from returning to action after picking up a thigh injury in late March.

Bayern Munich

  • Corentin Tolisso - A doubt with a bruised leg
  • Manuel Neuer - Still recovering from a broken foot
  • Kingsley Coman - Likely to miss out with an ankle injury
  • Arturo Vidal - Out for the season after suffering a knee injury last month

Real Madrid

  • Nacho Fernandez - Defender side-lined until May after picking up a thigh strain in March

Betting Tips

These two are among the biggest names in world football, and the pair will no doubt put on a show over the two legs. However, with the second leg to come, Wednesday’s match could be a tight and tense affair. Real have put all of their eggs in one basket in terms of going all out to retain their Champions League crown this term, and Zidane’s Galacticos are more than capable of picking up a positive result in Munich.

Real Madrid Win & Both Teams to Score

Being the home team, Bayern will be expected to take the game to Madrid. However, with the likes of Ronaldo and co. firing on all cylinders, that could play into Real’s hands. We can see the pair getting on the scoresheet in Germany, so put some money on Madrid to win and both teams to score (9/2).

Real Madrid to Win 2-1

This one is likely to be settled by just one goal, so it’s worth taking advantage of the strong odds of 11/1 for the visitors to return to Madrid with a 2-1 lead.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Score Anytime

Ronaldo’s late penalty against Juve in the quarters kept up his extraordinary run of scoring in every Champions League game this season. Back the Portuguese goal-machine to notch anytime (11/8) on Wednesday.
