Liverpool v Watford Betting Tips & Preview – Saturday 17th March 2018

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be hoping to return to winning ways this weekend after last Saturday’s disappointing loss at Old Trafford. Javi Gracia’s unpredictable Watford are the visitors to Anfield for a Premier League fixture this Saturday evening. With the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in Emirates FA Cup action, the Reds have a chance to pile the pressure on their rivals by claiming three points in this one.

The Hornets, who lost 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday, will be hoping to avoid another heavy defeat on their travels this weekend. These two sides played out a six-goal thriller at Vicarage Road on the opening weekend of the Premier League season – will we be in for another goal fest between Liverpool and Watford this time around?

Liverpool Form

Liverpool had been going great guns prior to their 2-1 loss at Old Trafford last weekend. That was the Reds’ first Premier League defeat since losing 1-0 at Swansea City back in January. With Tottenham and Chelsea winning, it will be interesting to see how last weekend’s loss in Manchester will affect their top four ambitions. The Merseysiders still sit four points above fifth-placed Chelsea.

Liverpool, along with runaway leaders Manchester City, are the only two teams not to have lost a single league game on their own ground in the PL this term. Klopp’s side have won nine and drawn six of their 15 league matches at Anfield so far. The Merseyside outfit will be desperate to chalk up their 10th home Premier League victory of the season on Saturday.

Watford Form

Gracia has made a pretty satisfactory start to life in Herefordshire, although last Sunday’s 3-0 loss at the Emirates Stadium was his heaviest defeat as Watford boss. The Hornets sit in a respectable 10th place in the Premier League table on 36 points, nine points clear of the drop zone. Prior to losing at Arsenal, Watford had won three of their last four in the league.

The Hornets have picked up drastically at home under Gracia, winning each of their last three league matches at Vicarage Road. Away from home, though, Watford have only picked up one win in all competitions since September, losing eight and drawing one of their past nine in the process. Can they cause an almighty shock at Anfield on Saturday?

Head to Head Stats

Liverpool ran riot with a 6-1 win when these two last met at Anfield in November 2016. As we mentioned, when the pair squared off at Vicarage Road in August, Miguel Britos’ injury-time equaliser rescued a point for the Hornets in an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Watford have not beaten the Reds since a 3-0 home win back in December 2015, which remains their only win over the Merseyside club since 1999. Liverpool have a strong record over Watford in recent years, winning eight of the last 10 meetings in all competitions.

Betting Tips

After last Saturday’s disappointing loss to rivals Man Utd, Liverpool will want to hit back at the first time of asking this weekend. Watford have looked organised under Gracia, but the Hornets could struggle to keep Liverpool’s deadly attack at bay in this one.

Liverpool to Win -2

Liverpool have not been beaten at home in the Premier League since losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace back in April last season. A shock 3-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup in January is Liverpool’s only loss at Anfield in 22 league and cup matches this term. We can see the Reds sealing another easy victory on their own patch here, so back the hosts to win -2 at 5/4.

Liverpool to Win 3-0

Liverpool have won 3-0 on five occasions in all competitions this season. Meanwhile, Watford were beaten by that scoreline at Arsenal last time out. We fancy Klopp’s team to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory (13/2) this Saturday.

Salah to Score First

Mohamed Salah scored the first of his 24 Premier League for Liverpool at Watford in August. At decent odds of 9/4, have a punt on the Egyptian ace to notch the opening goal on Saturday.
