Paris Saint-Germain v Monaco Betting Tips & Preview – Sunday 15th April 2018

Unai Emery’s Paris Saint-Germain welcome Leonardo Jardim’s Monaco to the Parc des Princes for a heavyweight Ligue 1 clash this Sunday night. PSG go into this one a staggering 14 points clear at the summit of France’s top tier, and a win in Paris at the weekend will be enough to secure the title.

Even though the outgoing champions have been PSG’s closest challengers this term, they have failed to get near Emery’s men. The home team are the overwhelming favourites to seal the three points and the Ligue 1 championship on Sunday, although the Red and Whites would love to halt the hosts’ title celebrations.

Paris Saint-Germain Form

Domestically, Paris Saint-Germain have been unstoppable this season. Since falling to a 2-1 defeat at Lyon back in January, the Parisians have taken 28 points from a possible 30 in Ligue 1, winning nine and drawing one of their last 10. Mathieu Debuchy’s injury-time own goal preserved their unbeaten run last Friday night.

Although Emery’s men ultimately failed in the UEFA Champions League – a competition they really wanted to make a mark in this season – PSG have romped away at the top of Ligue 1 practically all season long. They have already won the French League Cup and French Champions Trophy, and they have reached the semi-final of the French Cup. Overall, it’s been a very successful campaign for France’s top dogs.

Monaco Form

Monaco have given it their best shot but have struggled to keep up with Paris’ relentless pace at the top of the division. After winning the title last year, the Red and Whites will be disappointed to see it slip out of their hands this time around, especially if it’s confirmed against them on Sunday. Jardim’s men can have no complaints, though, as they are 14 points behind.

Monaco are on a very impressive undefeated run of their own in Ligue 1, not losing since a 1-0 reverse in Nantes all the way back in November. In fact, Monaco have only been beaten four times in the league this term. Can the current French champions cause a big upset in the capital on Sunday night?

Head to Head Stats

These two met a couple of weeks ago in the French League Cup final, with PSG running out comfortable 3-0 winners on the night. The Champions-elect are the only team to prevail in the Stade Louis II in Ligue 1 this term, as well.

Since the pair drew 1-1 in the Parc des Princes back in January 2017, PSG have won each of the last five meetings between the pair. Monaco’s last victory in Paris came over two years ago.

Injuries & Suspensions

PSG could once again be without the likes of Danny Alves, Julian Draxler and Marco Verratti, who have all recently picked up injuries. Neymar is still recovering from a broken toe. Former Manchester City man Stevan Jovetic remains a doubt for Monaco after suffering a calf injury a week ago.

Paris Saint-Germain

  • Hatem Ben Arfa - Could return from a long-term leg injury
  • Danny Alves - A doubt after suffering a knock
  • Julian Draxler - Midfielder a doubt with a knee injury
  • Marco Verratti - Could miss out with a groin strain
  • Neymar - Still recovering from a broken toe

Monaco

  • Adama Traore - Missing since November with a hamstring injury
  • Diego Benaglio - Could miss out with a knee problem
  • Stevan Jovetic - Doubtful having picked up a calf injury
  • Pietro Pellegrini - Side-lined for a few more weeks with a hernia issue

Betting Tips

Paris Saint-Germain have been exceptionally strong at home this term, winning all 16 of their home league matches up until now. Along the way, Emery’s troops have scored an incredible 61 times and conceded just 10. Real Madrid are the only team to have won in Paris this term, as PSG have won 21 of their 22 home matches in all competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain Half Time/Full Time

Having been far superior to anyone else in Ligue 1 this term, we can’t see Paris being stopped now. Although Monaco have been hard to beat on their travels of late, we fancy PSG to seal an easy win on Sunday. Put some money on the home team to be winning at half time and full time at 8/11.

Paris Saint-Germain to Win 4-0

When the side from the capital win at home, which is very often, they usually prevail by a big margin. Emery’s troops will be looking to secure the title in style, so have a punt on them to run out 4-0 winners at tempting odds of 12/1.

Paris Saint-Germain to Win Both Halves

We also fancy the Red and Blues to win both halves on Sunday night, which is nicely priced at odds of 6/4.
