West Ham United v Stoke City Betting Tips & Preview – Monday 16th April 2018

David Moyes’ West Ham United and Paul Lambert’s Stoke City meet in a vital relegation six-pointer in the Premier League this Monday night. With the Potters currently four points adrift of safety, this fixture at the London Stadium is an even bigger game for them. As for the Hammers, they will take a giant leap towards safety with all three points.

As expected, Moyes’ men go into this crucial clash as favourites with the bookies. But with Stoke fighting for their lives, don’t rule out Lambert’s troops just yet. We could be in for a tense night in the capital.

West Ham United Form

Four points from their last two games have given West Ham breathing space in the race for survival. It was all doom and gloom when they were thumped 3-0 by Burnley at the London Stadium last month. However, the Irons hit back with a solid 3-0 home win over Southampton, which they followed up with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Before this round of fixtures, the Londoners are six points above 18th-placed Southampton in 14th spot. With just five matches left after this one, a win on Monday will take them a huge step closer to survival.

Stoke City Form

Stoke are in big trouble having lost each of their last four league matches. In fact, since beating Huddersfield Town – which was Lambert’s first game in charge – back in January, City have accumulated just four points, drawing four and losing five of nine.

The Potters occupy a lowly 19th place in the Premier League table at present, and if results go against them at the weekend, Stoke could be seven points adrift of safety before lining up at the London Stadium on Monday. These are without doubt worrying times for the Stoke faithful.

Head to Head Stats

West Ham left with a 3-0 win when the pair met at the Bet365 Stadium back in December. It was arguably the Hammers’ best performance of the season, with Mark Noble, Marko Arnautovic and Diafra Sakho getting the goals.

Stoke and West Ham have won just one each of the last seven meetings, with five of those clashes ending all square. Stoke’s last victory over the east London club came back in May 2016, as Gianelli Imbula and Mame Biram Diouf scored in a 2-1 win in Staffordshire.

Injuries & Suspensions

Andy Carroll has given Moyes a timely injury boost as the striker is back in training. However, after limping off at Stamford Bridge last weekend, Aaron Cresswell could add to West Ham’s injury woes. Stoke are set to be without Konstantinos Stafylidis and Eric Choupo-Moting again. Meanwhile, Charlie Adam is still serving a suspension.

West Ham United

  • Andy Carroll - Striker back in training after an ankle injury
  • James Collins - Could miss out with a hamstring issue
  • Manuel Lanzini - Likely to miss the match due to a knee injury
  • Aaron Cresswell - A doubt after picking up a knock last time out
  • Michail Antonio - Out for the season with a hamstring injury
  • Pedro Obiang - Side-lined with a long-term medial collateral ligament injury
  • Sam Byram - Will miss the rest of the season with an ankle problem
  • Winston Reid - Defender out until August with a knee injury

Stoke City

  • Konstantinos Stafylidis - Still recovering from a broken rib
  • Eric Choupo-Moting - Out for a few more weeks with a groin injury
  • Lee Grant - A few weeks away after breaking his wrist in February
  • Charlie Adam - Midfielder still suspended

Betting Tips

Stoke are running out of time to save their Premier League status. Despite playing okay at times under Lambert, City need points rather than decent performances. With West Ham feeling good about themselves after their last two games, this will be a very hard task for the Potters.

West Ham United Win

Putting the embarrassing 3-0 loss to Sean Dyche’s Burnley to one side, United have been hard to beat at the London Stadium of late. West Ham have won four, drawn two and lost one of their last seven on their own patch in all competitions. Stoke, meanwhile, have not won away in the Premier League since beating Watford back in October, which remains their only away victory of the season. West Ham look good value at evens to come out on top in this one.

West Ham United to Win 3-0

West Ham’s last home game ended in a 3-0 win, while Stoke lost their previous away match by the same scoreline. You can get the home team to win 3-0 at the top odds of 18/1 this Monday.

West Ham United to Win -1

Four of West Ham’s last five wins have come by more than one goal. Back Moyes’ boys to win -1 (5/2) in this match.
