Lyon v Paris Saint-Germain Betting Tips & Preview – Sunday 21st January 2018

The top two in France go head-to-head in the Groupama Stadium this Sunday night as Bruno Genesio’s Lyon entertain Unai Emery’s Paris Saint-Germain in a mouth-watering French Ligue 1 fixture. Les Gones may be second in the table, but they are a whopping 11 points adrift of PSG. A win for the Parisians this weekend will see them place one hand firmly on the trophy. If the home side can cause an upset though, there might just be life in the title race yet.

Paris head to Lyon in tremendous form and they really do look unstoppable at the moment. However, the hosts are not easy to beat on their own patch having lost just one at the Groupama Stadium in all competitions this season. Can Lyon stop the relentless PSG in their tracks on Sunday evening?

Lyon Form

Genesio’s men head into this high profile home fixture against the runaway leaders in good form themselves. Since losing 4-1 to Montpellier in mid-December, OL have won four and drawn one in all competitions. They have also lost just one of their subsequent 15 Ligue 1 matches since being beaten by PSG in the Parc des Princes way back in September.

Only four teams have taken more points at home than Lyon up until now, with Paris being one of them. So far, Genesio’s side have won five, drawn four and lost only once on their own patch. On the road, Lyon have the best record in the league having picked up an impressive 26 points from 11 away fixtures.

Paris Saint-Germain Form

Paris Saint-Germain have been the dominant force in France this term. Emery’s troops have won a staggering 18 of their 21 league games, losing just one along the way. During those 21 Ligue 1 fixtures, the six-time French champions have scored an astounding 67 goals, with the likes of Edison Cavani, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria all getting in on the act.

As we touched on, only Lyon have taken more points away from home up until now, but an away win on Sunday will put PSG level with Lyon on 26 points from 11 away fixtures each. The Parisians have been untouchable at home, though, winning all 11 of their Ligue 1 matches at the Parc des Princes, netting 42 times along the way.

Head to Head Stats

When these two met in the French capital back in September, two own goals gave PSG a comfortable 2-0 win on home soil. Last season, Paris beat Lyon 2-1 both home and away, as well as beating them 4-1 in the French Champion’s Trophy back in August 2016.

In fact, the Red and Blues have a superb record over Les Gones in recent years, winning eight of the last nine matches between the two. Lyon, meanwhile, have won only one of their previous 12 in all competitions against them. OL’s last triumph came in the 2015-16 season, when goals from Maxwell Cornet and Sergi Darder sealed a 2-1 home win.

Betting Tips

Paris have been relentless in their pursuit to regain the title having lost out to Monaco last season. The away team head into this one on an eight-game winning streak in all competitions, dating back to early December. Of course, PSG are the clear favourites, but Lyon are a tough nut to crack at the Groupama Stadium, and a home win will close the gap at the top to eight points. We could be in for an intriguing night in Lyon but we fancy the visitors to get the job done.

Paris Saint-Germain to Win -1

The Parisians are available at just 4/11 to get the win, so it’s definitely worth backing them to prevail by a margin in Lyon. PSG have won by more than one goal on five occasions away from home in Ligue 1 this term. The visitors are priced at 10/11 to win -1 this Sunday night.

Paris Saint-Germain to Win to Nil

Emery’s men have kept 15 clean sheets in all competitions so far, with 14 of those ending in victories. Paris have stopped the opposition from scoring in each of their last three, so back them to win this one to nil at 15/8.

Paris Saint-Germain to Win 2-0

Having beaten Lyon 2-0 back in September, it could be worth backing PSG to beat them by the same scoreline again on Sunday. You can get the 2-0 away win at 9/1.
