Monaco v Nice Betting Tips & Preview – Tuesday 16th January 2018

Monaco will be hoping to kick off their 2018 home league campaign with a win against Nice on Tuesday night. Leonardo Jardim’s side head into this Ligue 1 fixture at the Stade Louis II as the strong favourites to take all three points. However, it will not be an easy task against Lucien Favre’s side, who are hunting down a UEFA Champions League place this season.

Monaco are in outstanding form at present, which should stand them in good stead on Tuesday. After seeing Nice off in the quarter-final of the French League Cup just last week, the Red and Whites will be on the lookout for another victory over the Eaglets this time around. We should be in for an entertaining matchup in Fontvieille on Tuesday.

Monaco Form

Since being thumped by Porto in Portugal in the Champions League back in early December, Monaco have won six times in all competitions. Les Rouges et Blancs have begun 2018 by seeing off Yzeure in the French Cup and Nice in the French League Cup. In their final Ligue 1 fixture of 2017, Monaco squeezed past Rennes 2-1 in the Stade Louis II.

Paris Saint-Germain are riding high at the top of the Ligue 1 table at present, but Monaco are keeping them honest in second. The French champions have got back on track after suffering successive defeats in November. They have also been beaten just once in the league on their own patch all season.

Nice v Monaco 9th January 2018 1-2 Win
Yzeure v Monaco 6th January 2018 2-5 Win
Monaco v Rennes 20th December 2017 2-1 Win

Nice Form

Nice – who were the surprise package in Ligue 1 last season when they finished third – have blown hot and cold this term. In a disastrous month from October to November, Favre’s side were beaten six times in a row in all competitions. However, despite a couple of lapses here and there, Le Gym have put that woeful form behind them.

After being eliminated by Monaco in the League Cup last Tuesday, Nice will be looking to put things right this time around. Favre’s troops are capable of causing an upset in the Stade Louis II on Tuesday, but they will have to be at their very best.

Nice v Monaco 9th January 2018 1-2 Loss
Toulouse v Nice 6th January 2018 1-0 Loss
Lille v Nice 20th December 2017 1-1 Draw

Head to Head Stats

These two have been involved in some high-scoring encounters with each other in recent times. Last season, there were seven goals scored in the two meetings. Incredibly, Nice have beaten Monaco 4-0 in each of their past two home games against them, including in the reverse match this term back in September.

However, Nice have been victorious in just one of their previous seven visits to the Stade Louis II. Also, as we touched on, Monaco beat Nice 2-1 in the quarter-final of the French League Cup just last week.

Nice v Monaco 9th January 2018 1-2 Monaco Win
Nice v Monaco 9th September 2017 4-0 Nice Win
Monaco v Nice 4th February 2017 3-0 Monaco Win

Monaco could welcome back Adama Traore and Youri Tielemans. However, Radamel Falcao is likely to miss out due to a calf injury. As for Nice, they will be hoping Mario Balotelli’s knock is not too serious.

  • Adama Traore - Could return after a groin injury
  • Youri Tielemans - Back in training after recovering from a knee injury
  • Gabriel Boschilia - A doubt with a knee problem
  • Radamel Falcao - Striker could miss out due to a calf injury
  • Julien Serrano - Out with an ankle problem

  • Mario Balotelli - Could miss out after picking up a knock
  • Mickael Le Bihan - Still recovering from a broken ankle
  • Racine Coly - A doubt with a knock
  • Arnaud Souquet - Out until April with a broken foot
  • Christopher Jallet - Defender side-lined with a hamstring injury

Betting Tips

Monaco are the team in form, and Jardim will want his side to take the game to their visitors on Tuesday. Nice have had a few great results against the Red and Whites in recent times, but this clash could be a step too far for the team from the Allianz Riviera.

Monaco to Win -1

Despite being nowhere near as dominant as they were last season, Monaco have still managed to win by more than one goal on 10 occasions in all competitions this term. The hosts are good enough to prevail by a decent margin in this one, so back Jardim’s boys to win with a -1 goal handicap at 15/8.

Monaco to Win 3-0

Goals from Valere Germain and Radamel Falcao (2) were enough to seal a 3-0 win for Monaco in the corresponding fixture last season, and we could be in for something very similar this Tuesday. You can get a 3-0 home triumph at the tempting odds of 12/1.

Monaco to be Winning at Half Time and Full Time

Monaco have been leading at the break in three of their last four home league and cup matches. They also won the first half in the Allianz Riviera last week. The hosts are available at 6/4 to be winning at half time and full time on Tuesday.
