Millwall v Blackburn Rovers Betting Tips & Predictions – Saturday 12th January 2019

Neil Harris’ Millwall welcome Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers to The Den for an EFL Championship matchup on Saturday evening. The Lions have turned a corner of late, winning each of their last four in all competitions. Meanwhile, Blackburn secured an excellent victory over high flying West Bromwich Albion in their previous Championship match and so both teams come into this one with confidence high.

On paper, these two teams are pretty evenly matched. When the pair met at Ewood Park back in August, it finished goalless in a close and tense game in Lancashire. Being at home, Millwall are the slight favourites in this one, but we’re anticipating another tight fixture. Will the Londoners make it five league and cup wins in a row, or can Blackburn claim maximum points away from home for the first time since October?

Millwall News: Lions to Roar Away from Trouble

After three consecutive Championship wins, Millwall have moved six points clear of the bottom three and will be looking upwards, for now at least. Before picking up nine points from a possible nine, the Lions had gone eight matches without a win, losing five and drawing three. After beating Reading 1-0 at home on Boxing Day, Harris’ side ended 2018 with a 1-0 home victory over Nottingham Forest. The Lions then kicked off 2019 with a hard-fought 3-2 success against bottom club Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Last weekend, Millwall came from behind thanks to two late goals by Shane Ferguson to beat in-form Hull City 2-1 at home in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Millwall Very Strong at Home

Millwall’s recent victory at Ipswich was their first Championship away win of the season. Overall, the south London club have been very poor on their travels, losing nine of their 13 away league games thus far. However, things have been much better at home, with the Lions winning six, drawing four and losing three. In fact, 22 of Millwall’s 28 points have come at The Den this term. The Londoners have won six of their last nine matches on their own patch in all competitions, losing just one of those along the away. Millwall’s excellent home form will surely be enough to keep them up this term and we fancy it will be enough to see them get the points here too.

Blackburn Rovers News: Big Win Over the Baggies

Blackburn went into the New Year’s Day clash with West Brom having taken just two points from a possible 15. However, goals from Charlie Mulgrew and Bradley Dack gave Rovers a priceless 2-1 win over Darren Moore’s Albion, who are pushing for automatic promotion. Blackburn have had an indifferent first season back in the Championship so far, sitting in 15th spot on 34 points after 26 games. The Blue and Whites are unlikely to make the play-offs or be relegated this season and barring an incredible run of results (either way) they look set for a midtable finish.

Rovers Winless in Seven Away League Games

Blackburn picked up an impressive 1-1 draw against Premier League side Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the FA Cup last weekend, but their form away from home in the Championship has been poor of late. Rovers have taken just two points from their last seven Championship fixtures on the road, last winning away from home back in early October when they beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0. In their last away match in the league, Mowbray’s men were well beaten by Sheffield United, crashing to a 3-0 defeat at Bramall Lane.

Dack Impressing at Ewood Park

Since arriving for under £1m from Braintree back in June 2017, Dack has become a real favourite at Ewood Park. The attacker has hit the ground running in the Championship, helping himself to 10 league goals already. The 25-year-old has also scored three times in cup competitions, including one at St James’ Park last Saturday. Dack has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, but Blackburn will be hoping the industrious forward will stay put this January.

Analysis: Millwall to Edge It

With Millwall good at home while Blackburn have struggled on the road of late, the Lions will back themselves to pick up all three points from Saturday night’s clash at The Den. Rovers will be buoyed by their superb win over West Brom in their previous league outing, but we fancy Millwall’s good home form to continue at the weekend.

Lions to Make it Five Wins on the Spin

Millwall have found a winning formula lately, especially at The Den. The Lions are hard to beat on their own patch, where they always receive highly vocal support, and we’re backing Harris’ men to secure their fifth straight league and cup triumph. The home win is available at very solid looking odds of evens.

One Goal Could Be Enough

Millwall have won their last four matches all by a one-goal margin. In fact, eight of their nine wins in all competitions have been by a solitary goal. The Lions are nicely priced at 6/1 to win 1-0 on Saturday.

Gregory on Target for the Home Team

Lee Gregory is Millwall’s top scorer this season, netting nine goals in all competitions. Seven of those have come in the Championship, and the 30-year-old will want to add to that decent tally against Blackburn. The Millwall striker is the 5/1 favourite to score first this weekend.

Recent Matches

Blackburn are unbeaten in their last six against Millwall. The Lions, meanwhile, last got the better of Rovers in a league match in November 2012. The last two meetings between the pair at The Den have both ended in entertaining 2-2 draws while the Lions have not beaten Blackburn in south London in any competition since a 2-1 league victory at the Old Den back in 1991.

11th August 2018: Blackburn Rovers 0 – 0 Millwall

In the reverse matchup back in August, Blackburn and Millwall played out an uneventful 0-0 stalemate at Ewood Park. Lions goalkeeper Jordan Archer was in inspired form though, keeping Rovers out with a number of fine saves.

21st April 2018: Blackburn Rovers 2 – 0 Millwall

When Blackburn and Millwall met at Ewood Park during the 2014/15 Championship season, the Blue and Whites claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory. However, the hosts had to wait until the 78th minute to make the breakthrough, with Rudy Gestede getting Rovers up and running. Jordan Rhodes added a second late on.

4th November 2014: Millwall 2 – 2 Blackburn Rovers

The last meeting at The Den ended in a thrilling draw. Goals from Shane Duffy and Gestede gave Rovers a 2-0 lead. Despite Andy Wilkinson being sent off early in the second half, Millwall produced a stunning fightback, with Lee Martin and Shaun Williams on the scoresheet in the eventual 2-2 stalemate.
