Fiorentina v Napoli Betting Tips & Preview – Sunday 29th April 2018

By beating Juventus last weekend, Napoli have been able to bring this season’s title race back to life. The Partenopei are looking for their first Scudetto since 1990 and approach this weekend just one point from top spot.

Fiorentina come into this match with an outside shot of claiming a Europa League place. To stand any chance of making this happen though, they will need to claim near maximum points from their final four games of the season.

Fiorentina Form

Fiorentina strengthened their push for a Europa League spot after enjoying a six game winning streak between the end of February and early April. This marked their best run since 1960 and in this time they faced some tricky fixtures such as away at Roma and Torino. Impressively, Stefano Pioli’s men only conceded one goal in this time, although Roma could have easily added several to this total. For a side who tragically lost their club captain at the start of March, Fiorentina have shown plenty of bravery and togetherness in their response.

This fine patch of form however is over and now the Viola are winless in three contests. The winning streak ended with a disappointing 0-0 home draw with SPAL. The hosts had complete control over proceedings but time and time again couldn’t find a way past Alex Meret in the opposition goal. Fiorentina regained clinical touch against Lazio three days later but were edged out of the seven game thriller. The Viola were reduced to 10 men early on in that game and the same thing occurred against Sassuolo which proved to be their undoing in the 1-0 defeat.

Napoli Form

Napoli endured a patch of just two wins from six Serie A matches recently and it looked like they had thrown away their shot of the title as a result. The rough patch could have been made worse as the Partenopei seemed to be heading to defeat to Chievo but somehow turned the game on its head with just minutes to spare. It has turned out to be an important win but not one that could inspire them to victory against AC Milan in their next match. The game finished goalless but only thanks to a truly sensational save by Gianluigi Donnarumma to deny Arkadiusz Milik.

Napoli needed goals after firing blank in the San Siro and they got them against Udinese in an entertaining 4-2 victory, twice coming from behind. Things were far tighter last weekend though during the top of the table clash with Juventus. The Old Lady were content playing for a 0-0 draw in front of their home fans as they looked to soak up the Napoli pressure. This tactic almost worked but in the 90th minute Kalidou Koulibaly rose highest to head home a goal that could prove to be a vital in the Scudetto race.

Napoli v Udinese 18th April 2018 4-2 Win

Head to Head Stats

Fiorentina managed a 0-0 away draw the last time they faced Napoli but their record against the Naples side on their own turf is a poor one.

In the last eight meetings between these sides at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the Viola haven’t been able to win a single one.

Injuries & Suspensions

Maurizio Sarri has no injury concerns at a crucial time of the season while Pioli is set to be without six men for this test.

  • Bryan Dabo - Suspended after collecting two yellows against Sassuolo.
  • Marco Sportiello - Two games remaining of his suspension.
  • Simone Lo Faso - Broke his leg earlier this month.
  • Milan Badelj - Unlikely to recover from his knee problem in time.
  • Cyril Thereau - No word that the 35-year-old is set for a return here.
  • Josip Maganjic - Recent foot injury rules him out.

  • Faouzi Ghoulam - Fractured his knee cap in February but is back ready for selection.

Betting Tips

If Juventus are unable to beat Inter Milan on Saturday then a win in Florence will be enough to send Napoli to the top of the table.

Napoli to win

Napoli approach this game on the back of two moral boosting victories and they’ll now have belief rushing through their veins. They have a good record when it comes to big matches and their never say die attitude could also come in handy here. Fiorentina’s only poor showing in recent weeks was the 1-0 loss to Sassuolo but the first half red card can help excuse that. They’ll give Napoli a tough time of things here but shouldn’t be fancied for a point due to their fairly lengthy list of absences.

Under 2.5 goals

Napoli’s last four away matches have all seen under 2.5 goals and boss Sarri organises his men in a different fashion when playing on the road. Five of Fiorentina’s last six home matches have seen fewer than three goals too so very tempting odds are available on this being a low scoring affair.

Napoli 1-0

Fiorentina saw their defence collapse against Lazio recently but this was not a typical performance from them. They are usually a solid outfit who are unlikely to afford Napoli too many chances. The title challengers are no strangers to a 1-0 win though and in a game of fine margins, this is a tempting scoreline to back at odds of 6/1.
