Swansea City v Manchester City Betting Tips & Predictions – Saturday 16th March 2019

Swansea City and Manchester City go head-to-head in an Emirates FA Cup quarter-final at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With Pep Guardiola’s men flying high at the summit of the Premier League table and chasing down an unprecedented quadruple, the visitors are the overwhelming favourites to see off the EFL Championship side and book their place in the last four of the FA Cup.

With the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea already out of the competition, Man City are odds-on to lift the FA Cup this year. The Swans will do their best to frustrate their guests in Wales, but the away team should be far too strong at the Liberty. Following their thumping Champions League win on Tuesday many are questioning if anyone can stop City – very few are asking if Swansea can!

Swansea City News: Tough Campaign in the Championship

After suffering relegation from the Premier League last term, a lot has changed at Swansea. Graham Potter, who arrived in the summer, has had a difficult time in South Wales, failing to really stamp his authority on the Welsh club. The Swans hover around mid-table in the Championship, although their form at the Liberty Stadium has been decent of late. Since losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in league action on Boxing Day, Potter’s boys have won five and drawn two of their last seven in all competitions on their own patch.

Eleven Goals in the FA Cup

Swansea have had a fine FA Cup campaign so far, securing three wins and netting 11 goals. The Swans started with an impressive 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park back in early January, with Courtney Baker-Richardson, Nathan Dyer and Jay Fulton getting the goals. The club from South Wales followed that up with a 4-1 home win over EFL League One outfit Gillingham in round four. In their last FA Cup tie, Swansea found themselves 1-0 down at half time to fellow Championship side Brentford at the Liberty. However, after a stunning second half display, the Swans booked their place in the last eight with a 4-1 triumph over the Bees.

Focus on Next Year

The Swans cannot realistically go up or down which leaves them with two real things to focus on. This game and next season and, to bastardise the old saying, this game just left the building. Well, it would be unfair to completely write Swansea off here but in truth mounting a serious promotion push next term will be their number one objective.

They were tipped by many to bounce straight back up but it just hasn’t happened, with lack of investment a major issue. Whether that will be corrected in the summer remains to be seen but this decent FA Cup run will have certainly boosted the coffers a little.

Manchester City News: Citizens in Frightening Form

Since falling to a shock 2-1 Premier League defeat away at Newcastle United back in January, Man City have won 10 in a row in all competitions and starting to look very good. In the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie last Tuesday, the Citizens thumped Schalke 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The Premier League champions have ripped apart several of their opponents this season, scoring five times or more in a match on a staggering 10 occasions. Since the turn of the year, City have won 9-0, 7-0 (twice), 6-0 and 5-0. You could forgive fans of their Championship opponents being a little fearful here, especially as Guardiola has regularly named very strong teams in all of the cups this term.

City’s FA Cup Journey Thus Far

After being knocked out by Wigan Athletic – who were a League One team at the time – in the FA Cup last season, Guardiola and his side have unfinished business in this competition. City look well up for the cup this term, beating Rotherham United, Burnley and Newport County so far. That’s an easy run, of course, but the Citizens have been dominant. The current Premier League leaders have scored goals for fun in this season’s FA Cup, netting seven against the Millers, five against the Clarets and four against the Exiles.

Pep Going for the Lot

Man City have already won the FA Community Shield and the Carabao Cup this season, and they will now be looking to win everything else on offer. As we touched on, Guardiola’s superstars are through to the last eight of the Champions League and currently lead the way in the Premier League. Victory in Wales on Saturday will put them in the draw for the semi-finals of the FA Cup. This current crop of City players is certainly capable of winning the lot this term and writing their own chapter in the history books.

Analysis: Man City to Stroll to Victory

In truth, Man City are on a different planet to most teams, let alone Swansea, at the moment, and although this is the FA Cup where anything is possible, we can’t see any other outcome than a comfortable win for the Manchester club on Saturday. If Guardiola’s boys are on song, this could be a long afternoon for the Championship team.

Premier League Champions Too Good for Swans

Man City have won by two goals or more eight times across all competitions in 2019 alone. This could be a stroll in the park for the visitors, so take a punt on Man City to win -2 at 11/10.

Another Clean Sheet for Pep’s Boys

Since winning 3-2 at Schake in the Champions League last month, Man City have conceded just one goal in their last five league and cup games. Meanwhile, City have kept 25 clean sheets this season, with 24 of those ending in wins. The Citizens are priced at 4/5 to win to nil again at the weekend and that looks a really big price given their current run.

Aguero at the Double

Sergio Aguero has been in phenomenal form of late, scoring a superb 13 goals in his last 12 league and cup appearances. The Argentina international is always looking to get his name on the scoresheet, so have a punt on Aguero to score two or more goals on Saturday at 21/10.

Recent Matches

Man City have a superb recent record over Swansea, winning 14 of the last 17 league and cup meetings. Since a 1-1 league draw at the Liberty Stadium back in May 2016, the Manchester club have won their last five against the Swans. Meanwhile, Man City are unbeaten in their last seven at Swansea, winning five and drawing two.

22nd April 2018: Manchester City 5 – 0 Swansea City

When these two clubs last went head-to-head, Man City thumped Swansea back in April 2018. Goals from David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus gave Guardiola’s men a 5-0 win at the Etihad.

13th December 2017: Swansea City 0 – 4 Manchester City

Man City ran out 4-0 winners when the pair last locked horns in South Wales. City ran riot at the Liberty, with David Silva scoring twice. De Bruyne and Aguero were also on target in the comfortable victory.

5th February 2017: Manchester City 2 – 1 Swansea City

The pair met three times during the 2016/17 season, twice in the Premier League and once in the EFL Cup. Man City won all three games, scoring seven and conceding three. After beating the Swans at the Liberty in the League Cup and in the league, two Jesus strikes were enough to give the Citizens a 2-1 win at the Etihad in the Premier League in February 2017.
