Late November and early December brings packed schedules of National Hunt action to look forward to with top class contests on offer from both sides of the Irish Sea. Topping the bill over in Ireland at Fairyhouse’s Winter Festival is this Grade 1 Hurdle. Won by the likes of Champion Hurdlers Honeysuckle, Jezki and Hurricane Fly in recent years, each edition sees talented mares bidding for a place in the history books.
Sixteen out of the last seventeen winners of this have been between five and seven years of age. Apple’s Jade was the only exception, when scoring as a four year old in 2016. This has also been a good race for those towards the head of the market, with the past 20 years seeing 55% of races having a winning favourite or joint favourite, and just the 2022 winner returning an SP of bigger than 11/2 in that time.
