Bournemouth v Manchester United Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 18th April 2018

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth welcome Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United to the Vitality Stadium this Wednesday night for an intriguing looking fixture in the Premier League. After falling to a shock 1-0 home defeat to bottom club West Bromwich Albion last weekend, Mourinho will be looking for a response from his players on the south coast.

As for the Cherries, they still have a little bit of work to do to secure their place in next year’s Premier League. Howe’s troops currently sit in a respectable 11th spot on 38 points. The Red Devils may be the favourites with the bookies, but this should be an entertaining game at Dean Court on Wednesday evening.

Bournemouth Form

Bournemouth have been in much better form since the turn of the year, losing just three Premier League matches, with two of those coming against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. Last weekend, goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed a 3-0 win for the Reds over Bournemouth at Anfield.

With six teams between themselves and 18th-placed Southampton, the Cherries should be a top-flight club next term. Howe’s side are 10 points above the bottom three with just a handful of games left. However, Bournemouth could do with one more win to be certain – will that come against Man United this Wednesday?

Manchester United Form

After stopping Manchester City win the title against them the week before, United’s shock 1-0 loss to West Brom at Old Trafford handed their rivals the Premier League trophy on Sunday. With Liverpool easing past Bournemouth, the race for the top two has been blown wide open, too. Sunday’s loss was their first league defeat at Old Trafford since December.

Jose’s United are still in pole position to secure a Premier League runners-up medal ahead of Liverpool, as the Red Devils are a point above them having played a game less. If Man United can take all three points back to Manchester on Wednesday, Mourinho’s men will open up a four-point gap on the Reds.

Head to Head Stats

When Man United welcomed Bournemouth to Old Trafford for the reverse match this season, Romelu Lukaku’s 25th-minute goal was the difference in a narrow 1-0 victory for the Red Devils. In this corresponding fixture last term, United eased to a 3-1 win at the Vitality Stadium back in August 2016.

Since Bournemouth arrived in the Premier League in 2015, Man United have won three of the five meetings between the pair. However, the first ever Bournemouth v Man United PL matchup ended in a 2-1 win for the Cherries. Howe and Co. will definitely take more of the same on Wednesday evening.

Injuries & Suspensions

Bournemouth will once again be without Adam Smith and Junior Stanislas. Having missed Man United’s last few games, Marouane Fellaini is a doubt once again. Meanwhile, Daley Blind and Sergio Romero remain on the injury list.

  • Adam Smith - Out for another month or so after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury
  • Junior Stanislas - Side-lined for the season with a knee injury

Manchester United

  • Daley Blind - Still suffering from an ankle injury
  • Marouane Fellaini - Could miss out again with a muscle problem
  • Sergio Romero - Stopper a few weeks away after injuring his knee

Betting Tips

Bournemouth have been very good at the Vitality Stadium of late, winning four of their last eight. During that time, only Tottenham have won at the home of the Cherries. In fact, five of their six league home defeats have come to teams currently in the top half of the table. As for United, since falling to back-to-back away losses to Spurs and Newcastle United earlier in the year, they have won three and drawn one of their past four on the road in all competitions. United may be fancied to win this one, but we could be in for a close game at Dean Court.

Manchester United to Win 2-1

Man United’s last two away victories have both been 3-2 thrillers. In their last away game, Jose’s boys came from 2-0 down at half time to secure a shock 3-2 victory at the home of their rivals City. This promises to be another close match, so take a punt on the top odds of 8/1 for the visitors to win 2-1.

Manchester United Win & Both Teams to Score

Bournemouth have scored in each of their last nine at home since losing 4-0 to Liverpool back in December. Check out United to win and both teams to score at 12/5.

Romelu Lukaku to Score First

In 2018, Lukaku has netted 11 goals in 17 appearances for United. We fancy the Belgian to open the scoring (9/2) in this one.
