Manchester United v Sevilla Betting Tips & Preview – Tuesday 13th March 2018

This UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie between Manchester United and Sevilla is in the balance after a 0-0 draw in Spain in the first leg. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United welcome Vincenzo Montella’s Sevilla to Old Trafford as favourites to see the job through. With rivals Manchester City and Liverpool already in the hat for the last eight, can United join them on Tuesday?

After stopping the Red Devils from grabbing an away goal at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Los Rojiblancos will be quietly optimistic about their chances in Manchester in midweek. Which way will this delicately poised tie swing on Tuesday night?

Manchester United Form

Before facing Liverpool at Old Trafford in a vital league fixture this Saturday, United currently sit second in the Premier League table on 62 points, two points above the Reds. Last time out in the Premier League, the Red Devils came from two goals down to seal a useful 3-2 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. United have responded well following last month’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Mourinho’s men booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League by winning Group A ahead of the likes of Basel, CSKA Moscow and Benfica. Although they would have loved an away goal in Seville, the 0-0 draw at the Sanchez Pizjuan was not a bad result. Can they get the job done and dusted on home soil this Tuesday?

Sevilla Form

Sevilla head to Manchester in decent shape, showing a gradual improvement since Montella took over from Eduardo Berizzo in December. Ahead of their match with Valencia on Saturday, Sevillistas have won five of their last seven and have lost only two of their previous 13 matches in all competitions. Sevilla sit fifth in La Liga at the moment.

Los Rojiblancos finished runners-up to Liverpool in Champions League Group E to book their place in the last 16. Things were tight, but Sevilla pipped Spartak Moscow to second spot by three points. An away goal at Old Trafford on Tuesday will leave United needing at least two. Do Montella’s men have what it takes to cause an upset in Manchester?

Head to Head Stats

The first leg in the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last month was the first-ever competitive meeting between Sevilla and Manchester Utd. In a pretty exciting goalless draw, Sevilla certainly had the better chances and more shots on goal. However, David de Gea was his usual superb self to stop the hosts from scoring.

The teams also met in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match back in August 2013, which Sevilla won 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Injuries & Suspensions

Man United are without several big players for this second leg, with Anthony Martial the latest to join their sizable injury list. Sevilla could be without Jesus Navas and Juan Soriano, while Sebastian Corchia is pushing to be fit.

Manchester United

  • Marcos Rojo - Still out with a knock
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Recovering from a hamstring problem
  • Daley Blind - Out with an ankle injury
  • Phil Jones - Could miss out with a knock
  • Anthony Martial - Likely to miss out with a knock
  • Ander Herrera - Side-lined until April with a hamstring issue
  • Marouane Fellaini - Out with medial collateral ligament damage

  • Sebastian Corchia - Could return from a groin injury

Betting Tips

After holding out against Sevilla in Spain, Man United are odds-on favourites to win the second leg and book their passage through to the quarter-finals. However, like they proved in the first leg, Los Rojiblancos are certainly capable of causing this United defence one or two problems. We should be in for an intriguing night under the lights at the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United Win

In the Premier League right now, only champions elect Man City have taken more home points than United. The Red Devils have won 11 of their 14 league matches, as well as winning all three of their Champions League games at Old Trafford. United should have enough quality to make home advantage count on Tuesday, so back them to prevail at 4/6.

Manchester United to Win 2-1

Sevilla have scored in eight of their last nine away games in all competitions and will back themselves to notch at the very least in England on Tuesday. United, meanwhile, have scored in all bar one home match this term. The scoreline could be close in this one, and we like the look of the 2-1 home win at 15/2.

Manchester United Win & Both Teams To Score

Man United to win and both teams to score, which you can get at top odds of 3/1, is also worth having a look at in what we see being a fairly open match.
