Tottenham Hotspur v Newport County Betting Tips & Preview – Wednesday 7th February 2018

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Newport County to Wembley Stadium for an Emirates FA Cup replay this Wednesday night. Spurs failed to break down the resolute EFL League Two outfit in South Wales, with Michael Flynn’s side fully deserving their glamour replay in the national stadium. Waiting in the next round for the winners is a trip to Millwall or Rochdale.

The fourth-tier side head to London as the massive underdogs in this one, with some bookies even pricing the Newport win at staggering odds of 33/1. In reality, though, Tottenham should be far too strong for the Welsh team on Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur Form

Tottenham head into this one in terrific shape, winning six and drawing three of their last nine in all competitions since losing at Manchester City in the Premier League in mid-December. Last Wednesday night, Spurs were outstanding in an eventual 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Wembley. This Saturday, Mauricio Pochettino’s boys travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.

The Lilywhites eased past Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup last month, with the prolific Harry Kane netting a brace. After losing out to Chelsea in the semi-final stage last year, Tottenham have unfinished business with this competition. Spurs, who last lifted the FA Cup in 1991, will no doubt be looking for a big margin of victory in this one.

Newport County Form

After surviving by the skin of their teeth in League Two last term, Newport are pushing for promotion this time around. Although midweek’s 3-1 loss at Lincoln City was a setback, County are still in a great position to have a real challenge for the top seven in the fourth tier this season.

Michael Flynn has already worked wonders at Rodney Parade, guiding his side to 16 wins in all competitions this term – Newport managed just 13 victories all season last year. On their way to this fourth-round replay, the Welsh side have beaten Walsall, Cambridge United and Leeds United. Winning on Wednesday, though, would be one of the biggest results in the club’s history.

Head to Head Stats

Newport were eight minutes way from pulling off a huge FA Cup shock at Rodney Parade. Kane, who’s been Spurs’ saviour on numerous occasions in recent years, popped up in the 82nd-minute to tap in the leveller. Nevertheless, is was a tremendous effort by the League Two side.

The last three matches between Tottenham and Newport have all taken place in the FA Cup. Back in 1960, Spurs won 4-0 in Wales to progress. The year before that, Tottenham prevailed 4-1 at White Hart Lane. Prior to last month’s draw, the Lilywhites had won all four meetings between the duo.

  • Serge Aurier - Nursing a calf problem

Newport County

Betting Tips

This is an important fixture for Tottenham, who will be going all out to get the win. Pochettino fielded a strong side in the first match in the hope of progressing, and he will no doubt be doing the same at Wembley. This will be a great occasion for everyone involved with Newport, but we can’t see any upsets in this replay.

Tottenham Hotspur to Win -2

Tottenham have been beaten just twice at Wembley in 19 encounters across four competitions this season. After losing to West Ham United in the EFL Cup back in October, Spurs have won nine and draw two of their following 11 home games. The Londoners have won by more than two goals on 10 occasions so far, so have a punt on them to win with a -2 goal handicap (10/11) this Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur to Win 4-0

Before beating Man Utd 2-0 last Wednesday, Tottenham thumped Sam Allardyce’s Everton 4-0 in their previous match at Wembley. Pochettino’s boys have won 4-0 twice already this term, and they are available at 7/1 to do so again here.

Harry Kane to Score Two or More

Kane, who rescued Tottenham at Rodney Parade, has been on fire for the Lilywhites of late. The England international has scored two goals or more on a staggering 12 occasions for club and country this term. You can get Kane at the tempting odds of 5/4 to score two or more this Wednesday.
